My GM (General Motors) Diet Journey by Leia Mae "Yummy" Caliston

Say what?! General Motors?  Isn't that an automobile company?  What has the car giant know about dieting? Okay, let me give you a background why I started this diet plan.  I am someone who hates the gym.  It bores me out of my mind.  I love dancing, I love yoga, but I equate the gym to a painful struggle.  Besides, I'm just not really comfortable working out with a lot of people and ummm... men. As to why I started.  It is because I have gained weight.  I mean who wouldn't if you own a place that serves food?  Availability and access.  I used to be only 105 pounds and I panicked when I checked that I am already 115 pounds (here piggy piggy piggy...) .  Some people think they are giving me a compliment when they mentioned I gained weight and they think I got prettier but deep inside me I feel so insecure and I am not comfortable. I am used to my 105 pounds and I want to go back to that. General Motors Diet or GM Diet was starte...

Friends and a Cup of Tea

Tonight I invited my long-time friends to a belated birthday dinner.  We ate at FOGO, a mexican restaurant near to our own restaurant.  I like simple gatherings and meet-ups like this.  We don't really see each other often and don't talk everyday but it is comforting to know that we have maintained our ties with each other for many years now since our student days. I like long-term friendships.  We meet a lot of new people along the way but it is with long time friends that we feel at home the most because of shared experiences.  I realized how I miss conversing with people my own age and level of maturity.  We continuously learn from each other through an exchange of new learnings and experiences from our adult life. at Fogo (which means Fire) Eds, Mardyl and I were college classmates.  We were also groupmates in our Senior Project Video Documentary output which WE WON by the way ;) We really are unexpected friends.  I thought o...

28 going 29 and Fabulous by Leia Mae "Yummy" Caliston

Today is my last day being 28 years old. I can't believe it I'm so old! Huhuhu I swear I don't feel like my age and still think that I am a teenager sometimes. In my twenty eight years here on earth, here are some of my realizations: 1. I can no longer party til sunrise.   I just grew tired of it. When I was just in my early to mid-twenties, it's like my friends and I have this desire to always plan our Friday or Saturday nights.  There was no way I was sitting home on a weekend. Indeed, I think the party girl in me has died. When I go to a club or a bar now, which is mind you, seldom and near to never, I don't seem to enjoy it as much. How could I when majority of the crowd are clumsy students who act like they earn their own money? Kids today, bah hambug! Like I didn't? Well no, I didn't! For the record, I never partied like a freak when I was just a student and only started when I was earning my own moolah. 2. I had to let go. They say if you ...

The Past

My friends and I have been talking about "the past" these past two days and so I decided to write about it. There is a song that echoes in my head called "The Past" by Ray Parker Jr. with lyrics that goes like this: "I was wrong when I hurt you   But did you have to hurt me too Did you think revenge will make it better?   I don't care about the past   I just want our love to last   There's a way to bring us back together" Now let me dissect this stanza. Boy, how I wish a certain someone would have said this line to me. I don't know if I will ever get an apology from such person. Anyway, that is not the point.  While I agree that revenge will not make it better, I think it is presumptuous to say that there is a way to bring back "together" what has already been damaged. For love to last, it takes two mature individuals willing to make love work... and love IS work.   For some people, there is indeed a way to bring themse...

Hydra's in Pieces by Leia Mae "Yummy" Caliston

I dedicate this poem to all the girls who once shone so brightly and now feels like they have lost their light. Remember though, that once a star, always a star. We will be reborn in the womb of the Goddess and shine brightly as ever. She was a star She was Hydra herself. Until he wished upon her And she fell from the sky. He took her on a roller coaster ride, Created their own private world. Confined in a euphoric standstill Sweet intoxication - she's wasted, it's painful and most beautiful Under the May full moon. He kisses her against the wall before the clock turned twelve She's trapped in those arms that promised forever. It was an excruciating fall when he chose to let go. Blinded by counterfeit lights Watching fragments of kaleidoscopes of pseudo rainbows In his artificial world. She slowly opened her eyes Saw that there are other celluloid stars sprinkled in the diamond sky tonight She was Hydra, the brightest Yet the most solitary one. Her light diminished, She j...

Almond Eyes by Leia Mae "Yummy" Caliston

Another poem I wrote. Limpid pools of almond eyes Staring straight into my soul and reading my mind. Seeing what lies beneath Waiting for things that are hidden to unravel. Darn those almond eyes which turn my knees to jelly As they bore into mine Everything seems to be all right. My heart skips a beat each time you do that If only I could wipe those tears you shed for her If only I could take away your pain. To see those eyes smile again. When you look at me, is it really me that you see? Or remnants of her that you wish I would be... But when you look at me with the saddest of eyes, I know that there is no room for lies. Let me be the one to quiet the waves, Lift you above them for I am your friend. But when I'm all alone, All I can think of are almond eyes. - from Leia's beautiful mind 04/07/13

Bittersweet

If only this was a perfect world, you and I would be together.  We would have made plans and talk about forever.  It would have been your coffee I fix in the morning,  and curl in bed watching our favorite movies til the ending.  But the world is not perfect -and still won't be last time I checked.  So here we are apart,  though it had always been you from the start.  Now we pass by and politely nod at each other,  and there's always that bittersweet pain in the chest that gathers.  -from Leia's beautiful mind 03/10/13
