DORA LAKWATSERA Part I

What's great about being single is that we get to go to places and with people whom we like anytime and without a need for someone's approval.  Our time is ours and there is a sense of adventure.  It is the time to discover new things and places and meet new faces as well.

So here are the places I went to just within Bacolod this week and I would like to share them with you.

1. SHABU NIKU

It is a new Korean restaurant that opened here in Bacolod on the second floor of Shakeys Lacson and Bank of Commerce.  They divided the restaurant into two: the SHABU SHABU area and the YAKI NIKU area which is intended for grilled food.  We opted for the Yaki Niku.

The place has an interesting interior.  It is ideal for group of friends or family.

                                                               The SHABU SHABU area

                                                               The YAKI NIKU section

Toni and I were the first ones to arrive. Panie as always,
                                         being "fashionably" late.

They gave us this cucumber kimchi for appetizer. Bet ko to!

                                                                   Daeji Galbi Ungrilled

                                                                    Beef Galbi Ungrilled

Yes nalang. I will eat rice.

Grill galore. What's nice about Korean restos is that you get
to have a conversation with your peers while you cook your
                                          own food.

                                                          Finally!  Jennifer and Panie arrived.

                                                                       The K-POP Girls
Overall, the service was efficient.  They have good staff and one of the owners really makes an effort to talk to their customers.  That's what I've always noticed about Korean restaurants.  The owners are really welcoming.  Filipinos should learn a thing or two from them.

2. Negros Museum Cafe

Now this discovery is really a diamond in the rough.  This cafe has been here a while but I haven't really gotten around to visit it until this Friday.  Good decision! We had a great dining experience.  Totally Class A.  If you dig something organic, you are on a diet, you like artisan food, and you want an elegant, upscale dining, we recommend this place.

I'm in love with their food counter/open kitchen

                                                          First-timers at the Museum Cafe

                                                                Meal of the day choices.

We ordered their Buttered Chicken that comes with a
salad. This is so yummy! This is what we call "bisaya" na
                                           manok.

                                                      Lovelyn enjoyng her "candlelit" dinner.

OK. Pause for a moment.  Just want to tell you the slight difference of "candlelight" dinner from "candlelit dinner."  Both have a correct usage in English but if you really want to be specific about it, a "candlelight" dinner would refer to a dinner with the best china, silver and crystal, sometimes with a rose on the table for a completely romantic setting. A "candlelit" dinner on the other hand, would be any regular dinner setting eaten by a candlelight for a more intimate atmosphere without any of the things I mentioned in the former. At least that's what I've learned from my research.  So there you have it.  We had a nice candlelit dinner.

Since we didn't want to eat rice we opted for bread.
They served us what I think were Rye or Sesame bread,
                                          French baguette and Corn bread.

                                                             Pa-demure effect Achieve!!!

                                                                   I love my greens. :)

And then we come to dessert.  Now this one I recommend to you to the highest level. Trust me. I have good taste in men, clothes and food. Naks! But seriously, you must try this on your visit to the Museum Cafe.

TAMBIS PIE!!! O.M.G. So "nanam" and namit! The
taste is just perfect. It's not too sweet.  All the ingredients
                                            just balance each other. It's a must-try.

We're definitely coming back to this place and try the other stuff on their menu.

Painting on the wall. Aton Ini!!!

3. Unyot's Place

This place at East Block Veranda was introduced by Lovelyn to me.  It's owned by her long-time friend Anne.  It's a good place to just chill and be with friends. Tambay tambay mode.

                                                             Lovelyn with the owner, Anne

I love their cheese sticks.  I didn't get to take pictures of the food however because I was busy laughing out loud with stories reminiscing our past "adventures" or "misadventures". lol  Gosh Love, we were really mean girls back then weren't we? Sometimes I wonder who owns the Mean Girl crown, you or me? haha "And they all fall down...."

Love ordered isaw (chicken intestine).  I can never bring myself to eat that.  My first time was when April persuaded me to try the breaded isaw from the street near BDO Araneta Branch.  She said I would like it.  Oh holy mother of God! I wanted to vomit!  haha Well some people aren't built to eat intestines.

                                                                      An abomination

I do however, have a picture of this...

May gatas pa sa labi! lol

Anyway, try to visit Unyot's place.  It's a quaint and a nice place to hang out.  If you feel like singing you may also do so for everyone to hear since it's also a karaoke bar. Cool!

4. Ching Dance and Fitness Studio

After a period of hiatus from dancing because our Aero Dance scheduled 7-8 p.m. before was dissolved, and because of my eye surgery, I am back!  This time Hip Hop class.  So yesterday was our first meeting and we were already taught the first song to memorize.  It's from the Koreanovela Dream High.

Me preparing for hip hop class to start.

Until my next lakwatsa...

Smile Even Though You're Hurting

Okay. So let me explain my absence from the blogging world. Sickness galore aketch!  I just had an eye surgery yesterday.  The doctor had to remove the infection in one of my eyes.  Eww! I know right?  I learned one thing and I hope you'll learn from this too: NEVER TAKE A STY (in vernacular: "timos timos") LIGHTLY.                                                   Medical term: Hordeolum (Sty) When the term "timos timos" comes to mind, teasing usually follows. "Hala sin-o gin ling-ling mo?"  Believe me, I wish I had someone to peep at. That would have made my sty worth all the trouble. LOL Anyway there is no truth to this and for your information a sty results from blocked glands within the eyelid. When the gland is blocked, the oil produced by the gland occasionally backs up and extrudes through the wall of the gland, forming a lump, which can be red, painful, and nodular. There are two kinds of sty. Internal and external.  An external

Pronunciation Nazi

Please allow me to be a total Nazi on the pronunciation of some words commonly mispronounced by Filipinos.  I am in no way perfect and just wanted to give you a "for-your-information" kind of post because you don't know how much I try to control myself not to correct you when I hear you mispronounce some words so as not to embarrass you publicly.  But you have to know that this is one of my pet peeves. 1. Firm/Confirm  correct pronunciation: ( fɜːm)/ (con"fur"m) mispronounced as: (fEErm)/(confEErm) I don't know how this started but ever since we were in primary, secondary and tertiary education it has always been pronounced with a short "i".  But nowadays I hear some people say it with the long "i".  i.e. I already "confEErmed" it with him.  And I was like: (?!!?!?!?!?!?!).  No people it is not a trend. Even if it is, it is not good to listen to. You sound uneducated. 2. Lettuce correct pronunciation: (letis) mispro

The Freaks You Meet in a Bar/Club Scene

Cheers to the freakin' weekend I'll drink to that....yeah!! Err..No, I won't since I am in front of my computer writing this blog post. See, I used to enjoy partying all night til dawn in clubs/bars but I think I grew out of it.  Before I start my rant, here are important details to know about me: I AM NOT A WILD CHILD, I STUDIED LIKE THE DEVIL DURING MY STUDENT DAYS (i.e.. I don't go out at all), AND THUS, I MADE "BAWI" AFTER I GRADUATED, I'M NOT ALCOHOLIC, I DON'T SMOKE, I DON'T FLIRT WITH MEN IN CLUBS, I DON'T GO HOME WITH STRANGE MEN, I JUST HAPPEN TO LOVE....DANCING.  That's about the only reason why I go there in the first place.   I love to absorb the music and the energy. So there, now that it's settled... Begin rant. I seem to have lost my interest in the club scene.  Well perhaps because I've matured but mostly because the club is now filled with PREDATORS on the prowl for a willing or un-willing prey.  Another
